Year 2 without you, dad. ♥️

Today marks two years that my dad has been living in Heaven. Oh how I miss him.

This song, Noel by Lauren Daigle makes me cry every time I hear it, it always has, even before my dad passed. But now, it holds such special meaning to me.

It was the day that Joey (my husband) and I were headed to pick up my dad’s ashes. I remember it was raining and such a cold day. I believe it was Dec 27.

I was crying and just couldn’t believe what was happening. It didn’t seem real,. I was thinking, “how could I possibly be going to pick up the remains of my father, how did we even get here?”

I didn’t know how I was even going to walk in the funeral home without collapsing. I remember asking Joey, “What if I pass out?” He assured me he would take care of me.

I held Joey’s hand so tightly as I cried. I remember looking at the rain on the windshield and this song came on. My heart was hurting so much and then the chorus started and a thought ran through my mind.

It was of my dad so happy and so excited, telling me these very words of the chorus, “Come and see what God has done!” I pictured him walking and jumping, his sight and body fully restored. It was as if he couldn’t contain himself telling me, “Look, look! Look what He’s done!”

No, my dad didn’t come to me in a vision or anything like that, but I do believe God knew my pain and met me right there in it. It was a beautiful thought that I hold onto and often remind myself of. What is our loss, was the biggest and best gain for my dad, and that brings me comfort and joy.

Not long ago, I too felt this way.

Three years ago, I found myself questioning why I had to walk through such a painful valley—and why it had to be during my favorite season of all. The crisp air, the twinkling lights, —they all seemed distant and out of reach as I struggled to find peace.

Then, two years ago tomorrow, my father passed away, and once again, I was confronted by grief, left with a gaping hole in my heart. It was, without a doubt, not “the most wonderful time of the year.”

But in the midst of that deep sorrow, during those heavy-laden moments of prayer, God revealed something truly special to me.

While my world felt like it was falling apart, as I looked around at the beautiful scenery, I realized that God had painted a beautiful picture for me—a landscape filled with color and light—to remind me of the warmth of the season. It was a reminder that even in the hardest times, He offers beauty to soothe and heal our aching souls.

I understand that this time of year can often magnify our grief and loss, and sometimes it feels like a cruel reminder of our deepest pain. But even in those moments, God provides glimpses of His beauty, showing us that we are never truly alone.

This season, if your heart is heavy with sorrow, let the true meaning of Christmas comfort you. Remember that God is with you in your grief, offering peace and the hope of His love that transcends all pain. Let His presence warm you, as He has done for me, and fill the spaces of your heart that feel empty. 🫶

I don’t know what you are going through, but I do know that in all things, as believers, God’s strength carries us when our strength is gone. He has proven faithful every time I walked through times when I didn’t know how I would get through. Trust Him, He’ll carry you too. 🫶

Whether it’s fear, anxiety, or depression, we all know someone who’s battling something right now; maybe it’s you. My heart goes out to you.

As someone who has battled with these and other issues, I know how hard it can be. Many times I have called on the name of Jesus in the middle of panic attacks that hit me when I least expected. I’ve felt the loneliness and exhaustion of depression. But most importantly, I’ve seen the power of Jesus.

Sometimes our battle lasts longer than we’d like. But thankfully, Jesus is in it for the long haul. He never leaves us to walk it alone. And I’d love to walk it with you as well. I’d love to pray for you if you’re in need today. You can comment or send a dm.
