I want to share something personal today—a part of a message from a vulnerable post I shared on social November 14, 2021.
Why share this now?
Because the message is still relevant.
Because so many people I know—and many I don’t—are walking through incredibly hard seasons.
Maybe you’re one of them.
And because since that valley, I’ve felt deeply called to write for and encourage people who are in their own seasons of suffering and surrender.
So here it is.
If you’re in a hard season, this is for you. I pray it strengthens your heart.
And if you’re not, maybe share it with someone who is.
Back in 2021, during the hardest season of our lives, I sat in a hospital waiting room completely out of words. My husband was in surgery, and fear and doubt whispered every worst-case scenario.
I remember quietly asking, “Lord… what do I even pray now?”
And in the silence came a single phrase:
“Yes Jesus, I trust You.”
It was a line from a skit my children used to perform at church when they were little.
In the skit, Jesus speaks to a young girl who wants to trust Him but admits she doesn’t.
He invites her to play a game to help her learn. She agrees.
(Here’s the conversation as it appears in the skit:)
Jesus: Do you trust Me?
Girl: (sarcastically) Yes Jesus, I trust You.
Jesus: Then fall back.
Girl: Are You going to catch me?
Jesus: Don’t worry about that part.
Girl: That’s the part I’m worried about.
Jesus: Just trust Me.
After a few failed attempts to fall back, she finally does it.
Girl: (hesitantly) Yes Jesus… I trust You.
She falls backwards, He catches her, and she’s thrilled. She wants to try again and even asks Him to move farther away.
But Jesus stops her and suggests they try something different. He turns her around to face Him.
She tries to fall forward, but He gently interrupts.
Jesus: Do you trust Me?
Girl: Yes Jesus! I trust You SO much!
Jesus: Good. Fall back.
She laughs—because now her back is turned, and there’s nobody behind her.
Girl: Jesus, there’s no one to catch me.
Jesus: I know it looks that way to you.
Girl: Looks that way? It is that way!
He encourages her, gently asking her to trust Him.
But she refuses and walks away.
That moment in 2021 and the seasons that followed, Jesus has said those very words to me. And continues to say them today.
“Do you trust Me? Then fall back.”
Trusting Him meant releasing my husband, my dad—situations where I was so afraid to lose them that I clung tightly, unwilling to let go. Then and in every season since, it has meant surrendering my will for His. My timing for His timing. And my expectations for His perfect plan.
Some circumstances required miracles I wasn’t sure God would give.
I knew He could. I just never knew if He would.
And that’s where I learned to let go.
To trust that no matter the outcome, I’d still fall into His arms.
Because even when the outcome isn’t what we prayed for, His arms are the safest place to be. Where His peace, His comfort, and His presence carry us forward.
He is faithful, my friend.
Trust Him… and fall back.
